ARTHUR L. MARGOLIS
ARTHUR L. MARGOLIS is a partner in the Los Angeles law firm of Margolis & Margolis LLP. The firm specializes in the area of attorney ethics and professional responsibility.
After admission to the California Bar in December of 1973, Mr. Margolis was a prosecutor for the State Bar of California for thirteen years. During that time, he investigated hundreds of complaints against attorneys and prosecuted attorneys in formal disciplinary proceedings at the trial level as well as before the State Bar's Review Department. In addition to his trial calendar, Mr. Margolis supervised other State Bar prosecutors and represented the California State Bar in disciplinary proceedings before the California Supreme Court. When Mr. Margolis left the State Bar in December of 1986, he held the title of Senior Trial Counsel. After leaving the Bar, he prosecuted two cases at the Bar's request.
Mr. Margolis' present practice consists almost entirely of defending attorneys in State Bar disciplinary proceedings and serving as a consultant on issues of professional responsibility.
At the request of California State Senator Robert Presley, Mr. Margolis assisted in the formulation of legislation which significantly changed the California Business and Professions Code as to attorney discipline.
Mr. Margolis has served as an expert witness on professional responsibility in federal and state courts, and has lectured on the subject at law schools and bar associations, including numerous MCLE classes. Mr. Margolis has also served as an expert consultant for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.
SUSAN L. MARGOLIS
SUSAN L. MARGOLIS graduated from Boalt Hall, Univ. of Calif., Berkeley. Ms. Margolis is a Partner in the law firm of Margolis & Margolis LLP. The firm specializes in the area of attorney ethics and professional responsibility.
After admission to the California Bar in 1982 and the Illinois Bar in 1983, Ms. Margolis practiced complex civil litigation with a law firm in Chicago, Illinois, before beginning work at the State Bar of California as a prosecutor from 1986 to 1990. During that time, she investigated and prosecuted attorneys in formal disciplinary proceedings at the trial level as well as before the State Bar's appellate court, the Review Department. When she left the State Bar in October of 1990, she held the title of Senior Litigator.
Ms. Margolis' present practice consists almost entirely of defending attorneys in State Bar disciplinary proceedings, and serving as a consultant on issues of professional responsibility.
She has served as an expert witness on professional responsibility in state court, and she has lectured frequently on issues of legal ethics and professional responsibility at law firms and bar associations, including numerous MCLE classes. She has been a consultant on Bar-related legislation. She is co-author of the book, "California Lawyer's Guide to Professional Responsibility," published by Shepard's McGraw-Hill, 1994-1996.
